Born in New Mexico in 1947, Rod Hubble was raised in the beautiful San Juan Basin in the Four Corners region of New Mexico. As a boy Rod sketched and worked on the school blackboard in colored chalk at the four-room school in La Plata, New Mexico. Becoming accustomed at an early age to working while surrounded by his classmates, Hubble still paints in the public, either in a studio setting or on location.

As a painter, Hubble is self-taught and began his professional career in 1973 in Manitou Springs, Colorado. Creating fantasy art almost exclusively from imagination captured the first seven years of the artist's passion. Upon returning to New Mexico in 1979 he began to work "En Plein Aire" or on location and from life. Currently Hubble paints in at least three distinct styles. His imaginary work has a dreamlike quality with a muted and limited palette of colors and very soft edges. When working directly from nature on location his works are painterly, energetic and colorful. Studio work interpreted from the artists own photographs are slightly tighter but still infused with passion and energy. "All the artists works are showing a distinctly soft style....." this noted in 2007 at a solo exhibition of recent works in a Santa Fe Gallery.

Rod had an open studio while living and working in Taos, New Mexico that brought him recognition and prosperity, before he relocated to Santa Fe to open a gallery on Canyon Road in 1997. Retiring from the gallery in 2003 Rod now has his studio / home open by appointment only, in Farmington, New Mexico where he relocated in 2007. You may contact him at 505-327-2665.
